| Hmm... well based on the-- 'eh-- overwhelming number of comments I got
about my last poem I thought I'd post another. This one is a
sonnet about -- well five points to anyone who can guess what it's
about....
* * *
Street Corner Beast
Every eve she waits near the street light:
Six foot two, with handsome curves I adore.
Her jet-black hair melts her into the night,
With legs stronger than the heroes of lore,
She stares boldly at each passing stranger.
Belching seductions that give them a pause,
But most are filled with a sense of danger,
And turn to flee from her
bear-like paws.
Some, however, think of
themselves as sly,
So she sweeps them away to her own place,
Where she deftly unmasks for hungry eye,
And all becomes clear to a startled face.
Fear fills the night as she sends them to sleep,
Leaving all who knew them to pray and weep.

Any guesses?

| | Currently Listening Kind of Blue By Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans Freddy Freeloader see related | Hey... just thought I'd share another poem I wrote for my AP Comp
class. I love this one... it's in the imageism style of William
Carlos Williams. It was inspired by a situation that my mom told
me about. So here it is:
I Thought You Should Know
I have just recently
discovered that
I am currently infected
with disease
and perhaps
you should get
yourself
checked out
for we
shared those long
moments
in those lonely
nights.
And the moral of the story? Always use a condom kiddos.

| I wrote this for AP comp... thought some of you might find it worth a
read. Haha then again perhaps I'm just being pretentious.
It happens. Anywho, here ya go:
The Sparrow
Tweedle-ee-dee! Tweedle-ee-dee!
He soars above the chaparral,
Singing songs of folderol,
That float down past the tamarack,
Taking all the rest aback.
They beg and plead and shout for more.
Such palaver does he adore.
These lovely little sycophants,
Crawling down below like ants.
Their extolations much like hymns,
Place him in a palanquin.
Where he rides out his joke,
Wrapped in a taffeta cloak.
‘Till his wings beat their last death throes,
And in his fall from grace, he goes:
Tweedle-ee-dee! Tweedle-ee-dee!

| Oy... Lots of stuff has been happening... and I really really haven't
felt like writing here in a long time. I don't really feel like
it too much right now. Just thought I'd take the chance to let
all interested parties know I broke my ankle (again...) today.
I was wrestling at the Hayfield Invite and went to throw the lateral
drop. I locked up and as I started the throw I felt him step on
my inner ankle and everything came crashing down. Soooo I'm on
crutches again... sweet.
Better luck to you all! Maybe I'll even write a decent entry in here soon...ooo wouldn't that be exciting.

| Ack... I haven't updated in forever I know. But you're all just loaded with dreadful anticipation now right?
In the interm since my last post I've been quite busy actually. I
visited Kansas City one weekend for DeMolay Super Regionals... met some
awesome guys from around the country, but didn't do anything wild...
not that we've ever done anything wild at Super Regionals...
Then the last week of November I went to Florida for a week. It
was an amazing trip... we spent two days in Clear Water Beach, and four
more days in Orlando... not to mention 60 hours on a bus with my "band
family"... While down there we formed a little band called the
Back Seat Bandits and rebelled against the evil Front Seat Facists by
playing awesome indie music about sharks, and Santa Claus, and
dinosaurs and other fun things. We hit up all the Disney Parks as
well as Islands of Adventure at Orlando Studios. That's all the
detail I feel like going into at the moment... so if you want to know
more get a hold of me elsewhere and ask away.
After I got back from Florida the wrestling season started. I'm
wrestling at 189 lbs for the moment but hope to get down to 171 by the
latter part of the season... wish me luck, haha. So far we've had
two meets. The first was at John Marshal in Rochester.... it was
a very bad night. The thing you have to understand is that all
but 4 of our wrestlers have been wrestling for less than 2 seasons, and
for all but 2 of them this is their first year. All the new guys
are showing a lot of promise... but there's only so much you can do 2
weeks into your career. So anyway... back to John Marshal.
All of our new guys got pinned, and all of our experianced guys made a
stupid mistake somewhere in their match and got pinned... it was the
worst routing that I've ever seen in the sport.
On Tuesday we went to La Cresent for the La Cresent Quad.
It was a four way match between Winona, La Cresent, Lewiston/Altura -
Rushford/Peterson, and my dad's alma mater: Onalaska. My first
match was against a kid from La Cresent. I wrestled what was
about the best match of my life and absolutely dominated him.
Unfortunately the night before I only got 6 hours of sleep and I hadn't
had much to eat for a few days trying to make weight so I got really
tired by the end of the match. The next match was against the
LARP kid. He was only a decent wrestler at best but I was tired
as hell as I just mentioned and he beat me. The same thing
happend when we wrestled Onalaska. So while the night started out
awesome it didn't turn out quiet how I'd hoped. Fortunately
though our new guys did some awesome wrestling. None of them won,
but they showed more progress in the five days (2 practices) between
John Marshal and La Cresent than I've seen other people show in entire
seasons.
So that's what you've missed if you haven't talked to me much... it's
been a fun year so far. Even better yet, I leave for a week in
Texas next Saturday (Christmas Eve) to see my cousin Ashley!!!!
It's gonna be hella fun.
Hopefully it won't be so long before I write again... but who knows... surely not me.
Until then, Happy Holidays all:
~ Joe
